US visa interviews: book in your country of nationality or residence
The US Embassy in India says non-immigrant visa applicants should book their interview where they live or in their country of nationality.
Visabnb team
The U.S. Embassy and Consulates in India ask applicants for non-immigrant visas — visitor, student and work visas among them — to schedule their visa interview at the U.S. Embassy or a Consulate in their country of residence or nationality.
What it means for you
- If you are an Indian citizen living in India, book your interview in India.
- If you live in another country, book there or in India — not in a third country where you neither live nor hold citizenship.
- Check the embassy’s visa pages before you book, as the rules for each visa type are set out there.
